In May 2019, USAID Oceans awarded a program grant to Mindanao State University-Naawan Foundation for Science and Technology Development, Inc. to develop a simple but innovative system using data coming from FAME technology (for Municipal catch) and BFAR eCDTS for visual analysis and interpretation. The system output will make it easy for fishery managers, policy makers, and the fishing industry, to use.
The grant’s Inception Workshop was held on May 16, 2019. The workshop gathered and engaged relevant stakeholders who will work closely with the grantees in the course of its development.
Moreover, a planning workshop was held on July 11-12, 2019 at UP Los Banos, Laguna, to tackle data capture, sharing, and confidentiality. The workshop eventually came up with a common understanding on how data will be accessed and the authorized persons to access them. Other matters such as key data elements, system’s digital architecture, inter-operability, and system integration were also discussed.
A working prototype of the system is expected to be released in October to November this year.
SFFAII workshop participants were Executive Director Rosanna Bernadette Contreras and ICT Specialist Eric Sison.
