In order to capacitate the women for their role on Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) in the fisheries sector, the SOCSKSARGEN Federation of Fishing and Allied Industries, Inc. (SFFAII), in partnership with USAID Oceans, conducted the Orientation Seminar for Women on Information and Communications Technologies in the Fisheries Sector: Creating Business Value and Tool for Regulation, on March 7, 2019, at East Asia Royale Hotel, General Santos City.
The seminar aims to apprise the stakeholders of the important role of ICT to the fisheries sector; enhance the sector’s appreciation on the different ICT tools that they can use to improve business processes; and encourage the sector to use ICT tools in their business activities. The seminar also presented different free and open source ICT tools for SME’s in the sector and different technologies, and tech providers on how applicable technologies can equip the industry, and help government manage fisheries. It illustrated the importance of building the capacity of local intermediaries such as fishing associations and local NGOs to support fisher folk in the use of ICTs to strengthen their livelihoods, as well as for advocacy and campaigning, networking and marketing of their fish product. Women stakeholders from the fishing, canning and fresh frozen processing companies attended the seminar.
