The SOCSKSARGEN Federation and Fishing and Allied Industries, Inc. (SFFAII) attended the Workshop for the Presentation of the Sarangani Bay and Sulawesi Seas Sustainable Fisheries Management Plan (SFMP) and Progress Monitoring of the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape Fisheries Annex on February 11-12, 2019, at Sun City Suites, General Santos City.
The main purpose of the activity is to review and finalize the draft SFMP that was developed out of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management Plan (EAFM) planning workshop conducted in October 2017, with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) EAFM team and local partners. The proposed SFMP will support the implementation of Electronic Catch and Documentation and Traceability System (eCDTS) and EAFM plan in the region. Furthermore, BFAR with local partners will take the lead in the implementation of the SFMP.
The workshop presented the final draft of SFMP for Sarangani Bay and Sulawesi Seas to BFAR 12 Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management Plan (EAFM) Technical Working Group and local partners as an important step in its adoption or legitimization. The workshop also provides the opportunity to track and evaluate the progress of LGU partners within the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape in implementing the Approved Fisheries Annex of Protected Area Management Plan (PAMP).
The two-day workshop was hosted in partnership by the USAID Oceans and Fisheries Partnership (USAID Oceans), BFAR Region 12, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 12, the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB), Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape, and Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC).
